Our Devotions on Election Day

If we can manage it, Mark and I enjoy having devotions together in the morning. Our favorite Daily Bible Reading Plan is one we have used for several years now put together by Robert Murray McCheyne. (You can download it here - http://www.pesdirect.com/calendar.pdf ) Each day there are four portions of scripture listed. Two are entitled "family" and two are entitled "secret". (Lately we have been reading all four aloud.) It is wonderful to see how the passages fit together.

These are the scriptures given for Nov. 4 and we read them early that day. II Kings 17, Titus 3, Hosea 10, and Psalms 129, 130, 131. When I began reading II Kings 17 I felt that the words were amazingly relevant to what was weighing on our minds and hearts. OUR NATION.

Take the time to read these scriptures and tell me what you think.

Hi Neighbor,

From those passages I find myself identifying with the words of the psalmist about not being worried with such high matters, but acceping the peace that only comes from our total faith and trust in God. In my simple opinion, the "state of the nation" is much more grave than the economic and national security picture portrays. The "state of mankind" with such moral decay, lack of returning to God, and disregard for human life should be high on our prayer lists. I will definitely be praying for our upcoming President that he will become convicted of his need to hear from God in how to lead this nation. And I will not put my faith in him or any political party or ideology for our future. It is the Lord that we must trust in. He is the only One who is totally trustworthy.

Blessings,
Mar

Dear Dot,

I read all of the suggested chapters and absolutely cringe at the thought of wicked leadership, captivity, and punishment. I don't like to think about it at all. We certainly have chosen schools, work places, and all kinds of other situations without GOD. We just don't want HIM in it ! (as a nation)

Our neighbor man, Jerry, is a very friendly caring man. He has done a variety of things in his lifetime....among them is dog training. He has his dog "Snicker" trained to do all kinds of tricks. He takes her into nursing homes and schools. He has taught her not to go to bed without "saying her prayers". :o) He puts a little stool out by her basket, she puts both paws on it and then puts her head between her paws...... After she "prays" she can get into her bed ! Jerry is not allowed to show this "trick" in public schools ! Aren't we something!!

Well, I do love the verses that remind me that our hope is NOT in our leadership or our skills. Our hope is in crying out to the OWNER CREATOR of all things. God is in control of all of life and HE wins! I am comfortable in HIS care. I am crying out to HIM for communities of people who have lost their jobs, lost their homes, lost their purpose for life. Our hope is in welcoming HIM back.

I love you, Dot,
Dar

Hi Dorothy,
Enjoyed reading your thoughts and the scriptures. I too was so unhappy and disappointed with the way the election went. But I was reminded that 'God's still running this world" as the chorus we used to sing, says. Good to find your blog and 'catch-up' a little. I don't have a blog, but do have a website for our church. www.mwmchurch.com. If you'd like to visit it you could see pics of us and our family. Just finding your blog brought back a lot of great memories!! Keep in touch

To me it was very scary, the way we have turned away from God. But thank God for His grace. Sounds like time is getting short to me.
